There are twelve signs [i.e. of the Zodiac] in the sky. The Ram (aries) because of a good deed [he did for] Liber, because when he (Liber) led an army into India through Libya through dry and sandy places, since there was a lack of water and his army was starving, a ram showed them water, and because of this he is called Zeus Ammon by Liber, and he (Liber) made for it a great grove at this place, which is nine miles from Egypt and Alexandria. Because of this thing he ( Liber) asked Zeus that he (the ram) be received among the stars [i.e., as a sign of the Zodiac; this story explains why there is a Zodiac sign called the Ram, and why it is because of a good deed the ram did for Liber]. Others think that this is he who carried Helle and Phrixus [that's a long story].
