אייל מאיר-תזה-המכתב לאנשי רודוס
אלכסנדר רומאנס (האלפא) 3.33.6-10
אפיטומת מץ 107-8 (Heckel 1988, 12-13x)
107 King Alexander to the senate and people of Rhodes: Greetings! We, beyond the pillars of our ancestral god, Hercules ...from the territory, leaving our enemies we have divided our realm and our wealth. We have considered you to be the most suitable executors and guardians of this; for we have experienced your exceptional reliability and integrity, and that is why we have always held your city in the highest esteem. We have accordingly sent written instructions to Cebes to remove the garrison from your town, and I hae taken care that you should see from my will - a copy of which i have sent to you - that I am also sensitive to all your other interests.
108 Basing our assessment on individual merit and rank, we have made an allotment of territorial jurisdictions and we have directed all these governors to see that each be given from the royal treasury a sum which we decreed to be given. This includes 300 talents of gold coin for you to beautify your city, 40,000 bushels of wheat per year and 40 war-ships. We have also given instructions that our body be transported to Egypt and the priests there look after the burial. In view of your integrity and authority you have a moral duty to make a special effort to see that this is done and to be painstaking in attending to my instructions. Farewell.
